those of you who have known me for a minute know that i have been actively dreaming this event to life since all the way back when. woven through and from the original magyk of 'Late Night Temple' at DNE, the Frolic explorations at dawn in the fae filled fields of Tilson, 'Rhythm Oasis', and all the madness and tribal euphoria of the early 'Body Temple' days.... Church is both a continuance and an arrival, the realization of a well cherished dream and its continued unfolding.

i am well pleased that Mikio will be by my side co-hosting Church and taking a turn on the sonic pulpit. both Mikio and i caught direct inspiration from 'Body And Soul' at Vinyl and Danny K's offshoot '718 Sessions'. we were blessed with an intimate first hand view, as we were both enlisted in the Metrosound army that built and maintained that epic system at Vinyl. to be clear, we take the musical journey in quite a different way than those guys, but the spirit of tolerance within an open community, the dedication to excellence in production, and a beautiful community gathered around the love of music and dance is what we took from those days.

we welcome you into the sunday afternoon warmth of GrandSpace, filled with flowers and divans and beautiful music you have never heard. lounging nooks, a spring-loaded dance floor and a uniquely exquisite sonic journey. explore dance, movement and community as we break it down for you in a soul dub style, and then build it up to a cascading crescendo, as we slide into evening for the final bounce of the weekend ride.

(my vision is to to see this evolve into an open weekly gathering for new york's dance community. procedural aside: if this concept is tickling the exciter antenna of any organizational uber-rockstars in the congregation, pm me and we can discuss possible paths down the rabbit hole.)

Bless.

  • Many of you have experienced, either at past dance camps or during summer outdoor frolics, Haj & I crafting one of the proto all night temples that gave rise to the DJ/dance format that our community is now notorious for.

..well, picture this in a big beautiful room full of flowers, pillows and friends on a lazy Sunday with the deep lunar temple vibe being baked into sunny warm golden goodness by slowly building slinky grooves, goddess gospel, global street prophet poetry and future dub mashed up with straight up old skool good vibes and unapologetic sonic love.

Y'all know how supremely deep, flavorful & exotically pungent Haj's bin is, yes? Well these are the dank, butter soaked nuggets that he keeps stashed at the bottom for special occasions. (ooops, yeah sorry, I know it's substance free in here)

Don't miss this one. After all you have an appointment with me on the snuggle pile after my set while 'Ji orchestrates a phunkayyyy Brooklyn Sunset.

    • I wish that I could go to CHuRCH more often.

Do I have to give up my CHuRCH membership if I don't attend regularly?

Does this mean that I'm only a " cultural" CHuRCH-lic?

Can one proselytise, and so still be a member? 'Cause I found it to be a grand thing.

      Love,
      Jen
      • In cases of lapsed attendance on the part of a certain rare few of the faithful an exception from the general doctrine of banishment to vanilla city and withholding the holy sacrament of whOMPbipulation is made. The criteria for said special dispensation of holy mercy was reached by the practical observation on the part of the CHuRCH elders that if a exceedingly rare but eminently desirable variety of vargas-esque pagan hawhtie was observed shaking bootay to tha blessed boom bap the faithful were far more likely to wish to participate in religious observance.

With such pious concerns in mind the CHuRCH hereby extends the lovely Miz Ruzzell a lifetime supply of slack to saunter in the door whenever the inspiration fills her and we are so fortunate as to have her presence. (hopefully real soon, the clergy is not beyond groveling)
